The first OpenWork on May 24 will feature Gatorade’s Xavi Cortadellas. Gatorade’s head of innovation and design will share his insights on innovation in leadership.

OpenWork will highlight some of the world’s most inspiring minds in business, who will share their stories and provide scalable lessons for attendees to bring back to their company and community.

The event series aims to build a community around Guerrero’s mission: recognizing, promoting, and developing great executives. Leadership lessons and insights—told by the leaders themselves—will be shared so attendees can walk away with actionable advice. Each event will be open not only to Guerrero employees but also its clients and audience of engaged and passionate leaders.

OpenWork kicks off with Xavi Cortadellas, global head of innovation and design at Gatorade. Cortadellas, who was featured twice in Hispanic Executive magazine, will be sharing innovation insights and what leadership means to him.

At Gatorade, Cortadellas leads his team in the creation of Gatorade Gx, a sports-fuel customization platform that helps athletes better understand how they hydrate and replenish themselves. Gatorade Gx will be available not only to professional athletes but also to everyday, competitive athletes.

“It’s very important to have one person own the vision and ensure the cross-functional team and all the stakeholders understand and deliver on this vision,” he shared with Hispanic Executive in its 2017 Top Ten Líderes issue.

Originally from Barcelona, Cortadellas studied architecture and his career took off at Nike—first at Nike Iberia in Barcelona, then to the Nike Retail team in Mexico and Brazil. It was when he was looking for a position at Nike headquarters in Oregon that the perfect opportunity at Gatorade came along. Cortadellas had the chance to redefine the future innovation of Gatorade and expand its global footprint—and he took it.

The first OpenWork event will on Thursday, May 24, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 777 N. Green Street, Chicago.
